Adults of all ages are welcome, and over the years I've had the joy and privilege of teaching to older adults. I've had a lot of fun and laughter and learned so much from my older adult students. Much about teaching older adults is the same as teaching younger students, but there are some important differences.
Ten Lessons:
1) Think Function
2) Address Fear of Falling
3) Train for Body Awareness
4) Focus on Ability
5) Modify and Adapt
6) Laugh!
7) Sitting / Standing
8) Repeat, Repeat, Repeat
9) Cue More, with Fewer words
10) Celebrate Victories
This list of the 10 "Lessons Learned from Teaching Older Adults" is from the Fall 2013 periodical "Women in the Martial Arts". To read the complete article click here.
